Kimihia Early Learning Centre

This project was a collaboration between ourselves, Natureflow and Wood Ltd.

A move to a new location meant that Kimihia Early Learning Centre needed a full design and build. We worked with the centre to determine what was working well at their existing site and what they would like to change. The centre management wanted their new space to feel as natural as possible and already had ideas about what they wanted and didn’t want. We followed their lead and came up with a draft layout for them to feedback on. After a few tweaks we settled on a design they were happy with that addressed issues such as lack of storage at their existing site and incorporated things they loved like their veggie beds and fruit trees.

As their existing site was due for demolition, we managed to transplant most of the larger plants to their new site which meant that the new playspace felt established from the start. It always feels good to rehome plants and not just discard them. The team at Wood Ltd. did a beautiful job creating the curved paths and completing all the earthworks. The team at Natureflow handled the build, including a beautiful water play creek that runs through the space and into the sandpit, as was requested by the centre.
